“A Small, Good Thing” Rubric

Peer Interaction

3:Student offers relevant, helpful suggestions to his or her partner and incorporates the partner’s relevant suggestions into revisions.
2:Student offers somewhat relevant suggestions to his or her partner and incorporates some of the partner’s suggestions into revisions.
1:Student offers few or no helpful suggestions to his or her partner and/or does not incorporate suggestions into revisions.

Characterization Worksheet

3:Student writes interesting, detailed, and complete responses on the Characterization Worksheet.
2:Student usually writes complete responses but the work lacks detail in some cases or is occasionally incomplete.
1:Student writes mostly incomplete responses that lack detail or are uninteresting.

Character Development

3:Student develops an interesting, dynamic character based on the Characterization Worksheet and peer comments.
2:Student develops a mostly interesting, dynamic character, but some aspects are not well-developed.
1:Character has little or no development and/or remains static.

Character Anecdote

3:Student’s anecdote is free of errors in spelling, grammar, and mechanics.
2:Anecdote has a few errors in spelling, grammar, and/or mechanics, but these errors do not detract from the writing.
1:Anecdote has many errors in spelling, grammar, or mechanics, and/or errors that detract from the writing.
